Surprisingly Awesome Idea Submission
Surprisingly Awesome is a podcast from Gimlet Media. Each episode is a combination of fun and smart, informative and entertaining. We love hearing suggestions for show ideas and we created this form to help guide these suggestions, so they include the information we need to determine if an idea is a good fit for us.

We will ask a bunch of questions. You don't need to answer all of them. But the more info we have, the more likely we are to use the idea.

What's your name?

Leave blank if you want to be anonymous -- though we are less likely to use anonymous ideas.

Phone number?

What's your email address?

What is your suggested topic?

What's your take on this topic?

Why are you interested in it or interested in being persuaded you should be interested in it? Is there a personal reason? A more intellectual idea about how this topic informs us about the world?

Tell us more about the topic.

If it's a fairly obvious thing that we already know, tell us if there's some specific part that you're interested in. If it's something more obscure, tell us what it is. Feel free to cut and paste some Wikipedia.

Do you know a good story or two about the topic?

If it's a fairly obvious thing that we already know, tell us if there's some specific part that you're interested in. If it's something more obscure, tell us what it is. Feel free to cut and paste some Wikipedia.

What are some fascinating facts about the topic?

We like to sprinkle 3 to 10 surprising and interesting facts about the topic into each episode. These are the things that will make you say, "Wow." And these are the things you'll be excited to tell others.

List a few facts.

Where are some places we can go?

We'd like to think through what the episode might sound like. So, give us a hint of places we might go to explore the topic. These can be general -- a candy store -- or specific: the one candy store in Baltimore that sells only red hots.

Can you think of folks we can interview?

We usually like to interview at least one true expert on the topic -- an academic or someone who knows the topic cold. We also like to interview regular folks with surprising stories to tell about the topic.

Your suggestions can be specific -- we'd love phone numbers, email addresses, and web links. Or they can be more general suggestions of the kind of person we might want to find.

Also, feel free to include yourself if you're an expert on the topic.

Can you suggest some shenanigans we might get up to in this episode?

We like to include some funny, surprising moments. These can be elaborate scenes where we go somewhere, little bits of silliness we record in the studio, or people we reach out to who are very funny.

What role would you be interested in playing on the episode?

Choose as many as you like:

Can you recommend any resources on the topic?

These could be books, websites, documentaries, whatever we could use to get to know the topic and your take on it.
